Research Bibliography
The Outdoor Health Bibliography is a publicly available resource hosted by Outdoor Health Australia (OHA) to support research, study, and evidence-informed practice in outdoor and nature-based health, wellbeing, and therapy.
This library includes more than 4,000 references contributed by researchers and practitioners from both Australia and around the world. It contains peer-reviewed research, program evaluations, grey literature, and other sector-relevant materials gathered over several years of international collaboration.
Originally envisioned as a global resource, the Bibliography is freely accessible as part of OHA’s commitment to equity, accessibility, and sector-wide collaboration. While most content is currently in English, we hope it will grow to include works in a wider range of languages.

‘Outdoor Health: Caring for People and Planet’ — a powerful new book that brings together voices from across the globe to explore the healing connections between people, place, and planet.

This bibliography is provided as is, without any warranty regarding the accuracy of the references or the content of the materials cited. It has been compiled over an extended period, during which referencing conventions, digital object identifiers (DOIs), and the interoperability of referencing software have evolved. As a result, users are strongly advised to carefully verify all references before including them in any formal work.

About this library
This library has been curated using the reference management platform Zotero along with a custom integration to make it available to the public via the OHA website. The library aims to represent a broad and inclusive range of outdoor health perspectives, drawing from diverse literature sources to support a rich understanding of the field.
The Zotero library is maintained by the OHA research working group and has been contributed to by researchers and community members over the last two decades. It is designed to be updated twice a year to ensure that the collection remains current and continues to reflect emerging insights and developments in the field. Due to copyright law we are unable to provide any full text access, however, many articles and papers in the collection are available as an open source publication.
You are warmly invited to explore the library. If you are a researcher or practitioner with a collection of relevant references, we encourage you to contribute. By sharing your library, you help to strengthen our collective knowledge base, ultimately benefiting the entire outdoor health sector.
Using the library
The library is searchable via the filter tab which can be expanded by clicking on it. Within the filter section you can limit the displayed references using the date range, title, author or tags fields (tags include author and publisher keywords and more).
You can access a more detailed overview of the search filters on this “using the library” page. This link will open in a new tab.
